Anne
and Martin Tillett began selling antiques from their antique shop
in Blackheath which they opened in August 1984. Shortly after
this event they opened a second shop at 9-12 Deptford Broadway.
It was at this time that antiques became fashionable, and because
of the great demand they again expanded into the adjacent premises
of nos 13-14 Deptford Broadway.
In the early 90s demand for antique furniture exceeded the quantities that they could supply and it was necessary to start the sales and marketing of good quality, craftsman made, reproductions of traditional and classic designs. With their expertise and knowledge of antiques they were able to supply affordable copies in pine, oak and mahogany. In 1994 they expanded and opened the basement as showrooms for the display of sofas, chairs and three-piece suites to complement the range of antique and reproduction furniture.
In
February this year they started a major six-month refurbishment
to open up the first floor giving a further 5,000 sq ft of display
area. Now their fabulous range of antiques have been moved into
this area and carefully placed in original settings with copies
of fine gilt mirrors, oleographs, chandeliers and soft furniture.
They also have an onsite bespoke restoration service. They employ
on the premises cabinet makers and French polishers and can copy
any piece of furniture, especially chairs, either from photographs
or example in the wood of your choice. The Antique Warehouse are
members of the Master Guild of Craftsmen, and believe in the highest
standards of workmanship.>
We
are located on the north side of Deptford Broadway and are one
of the largest dealers in antique and reproduction furniture in
South East London. Our premises, of some 25,000 sq. ft., are on
the same site as Peppercorn's Department Store at its heyday in
the early 19th century. The shop has good access via public transport,
being served by Buses 53 (from Plumstead and Oxford Circus), 177
(from Plumstead and Peckham) and 47 (from Catford and Shoreditch).
Deptford and New Cross Rail Stations are both within an easy walk
of the shop.
